Portrait Search Search more than 80,000 portrait records from the Catalog of American Portraits (CAP). New material is added regularly, and this information is automatically published to the website after it is cataloged and validated. CAP Portrait Search The Catalog of American Portraits is a survey of American portraits in public and private collections across the United States and abroad. The CAP encompasses portraits of American subjects or by American artists, generally limited to one-of-a-kind likenesses such as paintings, sculpture, drawings, miniatures, and silhouettes. National Portrait Gallery collections are included in this portrait database, as well as portraits relating to NPG exhibitions. Biographical Search Search by names, dates, or biographical keywords for more than 50,000 portrait sitters or artists before linking to the works of art. Browse Selections A "Browse Selections" page offers groups of portraits representing various themes for browsing.
